Annual vaccination is the most important measure to help minimise the spread and symptoms of  influenza and its complications for yourself and others this year.

Vaccination against influenza:

Can be administered at your local pharmacy from 6 months of age in Queensland and from 5 years of age in South Australia, New South Wales & Victoria.

Is recommended for all people aged 6 months and over to receive an influenza vaccination each year.

Helps protect everyone, especially the most vulnerable; young babies and children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with certain medical conditions.

Learn more about flu vaccinations

The vaccination is quadrivalent, 4 strains of influenza virus. The vaccines contain the 4 most common strains of virus as recommended by the Australian Influenza Vaccine Committee and the World Health Organisation.  Speak to your pharmacist to see which is the most suitable for you.

If a person had a 2023 influenza vaccine in late 2023 or early 2024, they are still recommended to receive a 2024 formulation of influenza vaccine, which will be made available in early 2024.

To deliver this service safely to our customers we have implemented the following measures at our flu clinics:

If you are unwell and have any symptoms including fever, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath please do not present at our Pharmacy for your flu vaccination. Please call the pharmacy to cancel and rebook for another time when you are well.

We encourage all staff and customers to practise good hand hygiene and cough etiquette at all times. All flu clinics will have access to hand sanitiser for use by the immuniser between each vaccination and will be made available for customer use.

You will be required to remain in the pharmacy for 15 minutes post vaccination to be monitored. The person who gave you the vaccine has been trained to respond to immediate reactions.

Vaccinations are subject to Pharmacist and vaccine availability, age restrictions apply.

Please ask your pharmacist for more information about seasonal influenza vaccination.

Flu Vaccination FAQs

Q :How much does the vaccination cost?

A :

The cost of the flu vaccination at participating Star Discount Chemist stores is $24.95.

Q :Why should I get the influenza vaccine?

A :

Annual vaccination offers effective protection against influenza. While it does not offer 100% protection, vaccination does decrease your chance of getting influenza and also reduces the severity of the symptoms if you do catch the virus. Getting vaccinated also protects those around you, including pregnant women, babies and young children, older people and people with certain chronic health conditions.1,2)
